Edith Labelle Says She Was Fired For Being “Sick,” Not Hungover

Anyone who’s ever called in to work after a night of hard drinking knows that when you’re in that pitiful, vomiting state on the bathroom floor at six a.m., the line between hungover and sick is severely blurred, as is your entire field of vision.  That’s why, particularly if you call in sick the morning after Super Bowl Sunday or St. Patrick’s Day, everyone knows exactly what kind of sick you really are.  But former UFC Octagon girl Edith Labelle says she really was legitimately sick for UFC 100, and substance abuse had nothing to do with her missing the event.  Either the UFC didn’t believe her or didn’t care, because they canned her anyway:

“After the UFC Expo and weigh-ins [at UFC 100], I went to dinner,” she said. “Then I attended some of the pre-parties with some of the UFC management, some of the Octagon girls, some of the fighters. And then I started to feel ill — I wasn’t feeling good. So I decided to go to bed. I really wanted to be in good shape for the next day, obviously. Then I started to feel worse throughout the night and the next day.

“It was so bad that I couldn’t stop throwing up. Then it was kind of getting late that [next] day — I didn’t realize it was that late — so I contacted the proper UFC personnel to let them know of my situation, and I told them that I would get ready as quick as possible and I would be there. I didn’t want to miss that at all. They told me to stay in my room because they didn’t want to take the risk of anything happening because it was such a big event. So I had to stay [in my hotel room]. …I was not hung over. I was really sick. That’s why I left the pre-party because I was really sick. … I truly believe it was food poisoning.”

Ah, food poisoning.  Pay attention, kids.  This is really your best bet when it comes to passing off a debilitating hangover as an illness.  If you say you had the flu, people are going to want to know why you seem fine the next day.  But food poisoning?  No such problem.  Too bad the UFC didn’t go for it.

So now what’s next for Edith, you ask?  Those of you who guessed acting and those of you who guessed internet porn are both weirdly partially right.  She’s going to star as a “super-heroine” in an internet series.  Fightlinker dug up the trailer for a sci-fi movie she did with the same Canadian company that’s producing this series, and it looks just as bad as you’d expect it to be.
