Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has insisted that Blues owner Roman Abramovich is encouraged by the progress being made at the club under the Italian’s stewardship.

The west Londoners are joint top of the Premier League along with title rivals Manchester United at present and are also heading their group in the Champions League, the competition that is widely considered the pinnacle for Russian billionaire Abramovich.

It was this time last year that the wheels began to fall off for Chelsea with Luiz Felipe Scolari in charge as the Stamford Bridge outfit followed up an unbeaten run in September with a defeat to Liverpool – the same opposition that await Ancelotti this coming Sunday – with the Brazilian manager getting the chop shortly after.

Chelsea’s unblemished record in England’s top flight this season was ended by Wigan Athletic last Saturday although former Milan coach Ancelotti is content that he has Abramovich’s full support.

“I spoke to Roman when he came to the training ground on Friday. He watched the training and said hello to the players,” he said.

“I didn’t ask him if he is worried. He is happy because his team is joint top of the Premier League and top of their Champions League group.”

Ancelotti went on to admit he is looking forward to seeing Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba sharing the same pitch come Sunday.

“At this moment they are best in the game. It’s very nice for the fans to see these strikers,” he added.
