The Pete Carroll hire in Seattle reeks of desperation

I more than understand the competitor in individuals, believing we can do anything and do it well at any level.

Rick Pitino, Nick Saban and even Pete Carroll has made this move in the past (making the change from College to the Pros) and have failed dreadfully.

All 3 coaches (Rick Pitino, Nick Saban and Pete Carroll) went back to college and had tremendous successes.

Pete Carroll is a great college coach just take a look at the below achievements;

# Two BCS Championship Game appearances (win over Oklahoma, and a loss to Texas)
# Two national championships, including the AP 2003 national championship and the undisputed 2004 national championship.
# Seven consecutive Associated Press Top-4 finishes
# A record six BCS bowl victories
# A record seven consecutive BCS bowl appearances
# A record seven consecutive years as Pac-10 Champions or Co-Champions
# A national-record 33 consecutive weeks as AP’s No. 1-ranked team
# A winning record of 97–19 (85.6%), including 16–2 against traditional rivals Notre Dame and UCLA
# A NCAA record of 63 straight 20-point games
# Twenty-five All-American first teamers
And much more.

Pete Carroll2 The Pete Carroll hire in Seattle reeks of desperationYet, in the Pro level he has proven to be nothing but mediocre posting a record of 33 wins and 31 loses, that’s a winning percentage of  .516.

So why are the Seahawks salivating over this hire?

Well is very simple; this is a team in complete disarray from ownership to front office to the players on the field.

Ownership can’t sell, so they have to make this team more attractive.
This is a classic “we need to get people talking about us” move. Like signing a player to “put butts in the seats.” This is signing Ken Griffey Jr. This is Allen Iverson going to Memphis. It’s a flashy hire. It’s all over the news. Everyone is talking about the Seahawks.

And for that alone Pete Carroll is going to become the coach of the troubled franchise.

Carroll is not a gray-area kind of guy, either you like him or you don’t. Either you think his enthusiasm is positive and infectious or you think it’s juvenile and arrogant. Either his motivational techniques are inspiring to any football players or you think it only has a place in the college game and NFL players will tune him out. Either you think the freedom his gives players allows them to play pressure-free and loose or you think it makes them unmanageable and undisciplined.

The 2010 – 2011 season is definitely going to be a more interesting one for the Seahawks with Pete Carroll as their head coach. You can be rest assured that he is going to work to prove the doubters wrong, Carroll is no stranger to this kind of environment; No one liked the hire when he “joined USC back in 2000 either. In fact everyone hated it.

So, now we wait.
