Said it before, I’ll say it again. What tha heck is going on with boxing?

This fight was so one sided I literally thought Mayweather was in a sparring session.

After nearly falling to the Mosley onslaught twice in the second, — which would have been a stunning defeat — he won every minute of every round, making it an easy decision for the judges.

By unleashing his patented speed, precise punching and staying out of harm’s way Mayweather improved to 41-0, adding a victory at the same spot on the career ledger where other greats such as George Foreman, Felix Trinidad and Sugar Ray Robinson first lost.

Mosley buckled Mayweather’s knees twice in a stirring second round, stunning the crowd with massive rights that created a scene never before viewed in a Mayweather fight.

The question of whether Mosley could penetrate Mayweather’s superb defense had been answered.

But there was another question: Could he sustain the effort?

The answer of the night was no.

From the third round on, Mayweather reverted to his classic advantage of being able to beat the other guy to the punch.

And how lopsided was it?

Ringside punch statistics were as one-sided as the scorecards. They showed Mayweather landing 208 of 477 punches to 92 of 452 for Mosley.

Mayweather won a promised $22.5 million for his efforts and will probably take home much, much more once the revenue from the pay-per-view audience is taken in to account.

But $22.5 million! That’s about half what he expects to get from a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.

So has this victory sets the stage yet again for a Mayweather-Pacquiao bout, which was close to happening before Pacquiao backed out over disagreement about drug testing. After winning, Mayweather reiterated his desire for this mega match to happen, provided Pacquiao submit to drug testing the day of the fight.

Am beginning to think Mayweather is actually scared of Pacquiao. Blood test on the day of the fight is not only unreasonable is cunning.

If the test is to be held after the fight-then that would be a reasonable request and I believe Pacquiao has already agreed to do it that way.

Athletes are very superstitious and having a needle stuck into your vein to have blood taken out is scary even for a tough small man like Pacquiao.

Why does it matter to Mayweather if blood is taken before the fight? I believe if he (Pacquiao) is on anything-the drug will still be in his veins after the fight.

He has found a way to make this fight not happening Pacquiao’s fault.

He is more than happy to fight two or three times a year making an average of $15 million instead of actually fighting an opponent that will count.

He is more preoccupy with being undefeated when his career is done that he plans to avoid this Mayweather-Pacquiao fight like a plague for as long as he can and continue to fight subpar fighters to keep his numbers up.

Mayweather knows a fight with Pacquiao will be like the round two of the Mosley fight, only this time; it will be more ferocious and consistent and last for all 12 rounds.

After a dazzling performance for Barcelona during the Champions League quarter-finals, footballer Lionel Messi is fast-gaining a reputation as the world’s best football player.

Messi single-handedly put the defending champion into the Champions League semifinals after scoring all of his team’s goals in a 4-1 victory over Arsenal in a quarterfinal second leg on Tuesday. Barcelona progressed 6-3 on aggregate and will play Inter Milan in the last four.

The Argentina forward is on 39 goals for the campaign, topping last season’s total by one, and will have 50 in his sights.

Lionel Messi, European and World footballer of the year continues to prove he is a one man wrecking crew, I personally thought he was the best player I’d seen since the days of his national teams coach – Diego Maradona who proved to be a nightmare to oppositions on Club and national level.

Messi is proving to be equal to he’s national coach with his recent run — he scored two hat-tricks in three games last month — has also made him the favorite to be crowned world player of the year, the award he was given last season.

What make this Messi performance even more impressive was that it came against Arsenal, one of Europe’s premiere team. This performance was so great that Arsenal’s players could be forgiven for wanting to stand back and take in the performance as the 22-year-old forward cemented his standing as a great in world football.

Messi’s performance has even united Spanish football fans only three days before Barcelona and Real Madrid play each other, with the league title hanging in the balance.

I have complete respect for he’s talent, but just like he’s hero and national coach Maradona, I believe he is great because of what they’ve been able to put around him in Barcelona, he is the world’s best player because he has a team that is suited to his skills and because he reads the game perfectly.

Messi was on the troubled Argentine team that managed to squeeze their way into South Africa and he has not been able to show this brilliance on the national stage and the reason is because unlike the talent around him in Barcelona, he lacks the same on he’s national side.

So why his talent can’t be question I still don’t see him being this brilliant come June. (Sorry guys, am just in the World Cup Spirit already)

That said, I truly enjoyed the performance and will be looking forward to seeing more of this lightning in a box this weekend against Real Madrid.

Former light-heavyweight champion Chuck (The Iceman) Liddell says Canadian Georges St-Pierre did what he had to in beating Dan (The Outlaw) Hardy on Saturday at UFC 111.

Despite scoring a lopsided decision over Hardy in Newark, N.J., St-Pierre has drawn criticism from some quarters for not finishing off the English challenger. There were also complaints that the fight lacked drama because St-Pierre elected to take the Brit down to the ground rather than stand and trade blows.

The judges scored the bout 50-44, 50-43, 50-45 for the welterweight title-holder from Montreal.

“GSP did what he was supposed to,” Liddell told a conference call to publicize Wednesday’s kickoff of Season 11 of ‘The Ultimate Fighter.’ “He went out there and won the fight, and tried to finish it. He didn’t give a guy with heavy hands a chance to hit him.”

Liddell said he had hoped for better takedown defence from Hardy “so it would have been more of a fight. But GSP, he’s a stud.”

St-Pierre (20-2) took Hardy down 10 times during the five-round fight.

Tito (The Huntington Beach Bad Boy) Ortiz, Liddell’s rival coach on TUF Season 11, praised St-Pierre’s performance.

“GSP is the bomb. He is a badass fighter. One of my favs,” he said via Twitter.

Other fighters wanted more from the main event, or opted to compliment Hardy for his showing.

“Was hoping for more excitement from GSP vs Hardy,” Josh Burkman tweeted.

Mike (Quick) Swick, denied the title shot when he lost to Hardy in November, sent congratulations to the Brit for his gritty performance. Hardy refused to tap twice in the fight to St-Pierre submission attempts.

“Tough Fight Man But U Held Up Better Than Most Of His Past Opponents! True Warrior Bro,” Swick tweeted.

“Just became a dan hardy fan,” DaMarques Johnson tweeted.

Liddell argued that St-Pierre went after submissions.

“It wasn’t like he was just laying and praying on top of him,” he said. “As a smart fighter, I can’t fault him if the guy’s not a threat on the ground and he is a threat on his feet. . . . If he can’t stop the takedowns, it makes no sense to stand and bang with him.”Liddell added: “Don’t get me wrong, it would have been more exciting and I would probably have liked it better if he stood up and exchanged with him. It would have been more fun to watch, but would it have been considered a smart move? No. And if he had gotten caught, then what would you guys have been saying?”

Liddell also praised Hardy for his toughness.

“I thought (St-Pierre) was going to break his arm a couple of times.”

UFC 111 may not have been packed full of all the bombs expected, but still offered a great sold out show.

Jim Miller vs. Mark Bocek

The first round was easily given to Jim Miller as Miller controlled the round for the most part and nearly submitted Mark Bocek. The second round however was all Mark Bocek, as most of the round consisted of Bocek attempting submissions on Jim Miller’s back. The third round was extremely close, but did end with Jim Miller getting Bocek’s back and nearly locking in a submission. The result was Jim Miller winning by a unanimous decision.

Jon Fitch vs. Ben Saunders

This was a fairly easy three round victory for Jon Fitch. Jon Fitch controlled the pace and position of the fight. Fitch took Saunders to the ground at will. There was a lot of booing in this fight as the newest of fans comes to see striking fights and knock outs.

Kurt Pellegrino vs. Fabricio Camoes

This was an incredible fast paced battle. Position and transition changes were non stop. Kurt Pellegrino did however seem to always gain the upper hand no matter how close it was. Kurt Pellegrino eventually got a rear naked choke at the end of the 2nd round winning by submission.

Shane Carwin vs. Frank Mir

Shane Carwin closed in on Frank Mir fairly quickly, clinching, and attempting dirty boxing. The ref, Dan Miragliotta, controversially separated them even while action was happening. Carwin eventually tagged Mir with a short bomb sending Mir to the ground. Carwin then knocked Mir out with some ground and pound.

Dan Hardy vs. Georges St-Pierre

It was no surprise to anyone that St-Pierre kept this fight on the ground. Hardy never gained an offensive position in which he was able to utilize any of his strengths, or even anything threatening to St-Pierre. St-Pierre had two nasty submission attempts on Hardy, surprising everyone. Hardy, however, was able to escape the submissions and survive all 5 rounds. St-Pierre won by a unanimous decision.

Yesterday was a very slow sports day so I decided to watch a movie, against my better judgment I decided to watch the train wreck the self proclaimed gangster called 50 Cent calls a movie.

Title of the movie: Before I self Destruct, I couldn’t turn off the disaster because I paid direct TV to see the movie. But just as I was about to cut my loses and watch another movie…. a lesbian scene came from nowhere and one of the girls had an ass that made Jenifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian asses look like jokes.

All of a sudden I had a goal for the day: find out who the girl was.

According to the cast of character her name is Angel, well that didn’t help much as typing angel into a search engine doesn’t really help, but she apparently is famous and had photos of her all over the internet and lots of videos on YouTube. Why am I always the last to find out about these kind of things?

Well, I thought I share this germ with the arodrive community.

Her name: Angel “Lola Luv” Fershgenet or maybe: Melaku Fershgenet. Whatever her name is – she is an amazing beauty.

So for the sake of simplicity, we’ll call her Angel.

This was a fight all about the hype – arguably the best showman boxing has to offer Manny Pacquiao, in Jerry’s world (Cowboys Stadium) which means Cowboy cheerleaders and the new Cowboy cage dancers.

The hype worked as 51,000 packed the Cowboys Stadium in Dallas and am still waiting for the PPV numbers which I believe will be impressive.

Going into the fight the one factor that much of the media gravitated towards was the fact that Joshua Clottey was a larger fighter. Too bad Clottey is a defensive fighter (one of the announcers called it “tortoise-shell”), which negated his size advantage.

Pacquiao, brilliant as ever, scored a decisive unanimous decision victory over Clottey to retain his WBO welterweight title, but Clottey was a pure disappointment as he deprived fight fans of an exciting show because of his being too cautious and his clamshell defense all throughout the 12-round skirmish.

I love boxing always have, but for some reason the current fighters seem to be annoyingly boring, while the sport has always been about the money fighters at least use to pretend that were interested in knocking each other out.  I strongly believe that if we ever see a Mayweather v Pacquiao the same trash will be delivered as we all know Mayweather loves he’s defense and Pacquiao would be afraid of getting knocked out and will put up a defensive stands too.

This wasn’t much of a fight as Clottey covered up in the defensive while Manny unleashed an onslaught of punches (approximately  1,231) for 12 rounds. Pacquaio won via unanimous decision as the three judges scored it 120-108, 119-109 and 119-109. Clottey only won one round and from watching the fight I have no clue which round that was as Pacquiao landed punch after punch for the entire fight while Clottey stood there and just tried to block. Mounting a counter-offensive didn’t seem in his best interests, although, I’m sure he’s certainly happy with the paycheck. ($1 million)

It’s amazing how much money Clottey earned just to have the best seat in the house, the commentators including chatty Max Kellerman were at a loss for words for parts of the fight which I think ultimately led to this Lampley meltdown he actually screamed BANG BANG BANG 16 times in a little under 25 seconds with every BANG representing a punch that was thrown by Pacquiao and landed on the tortoise in the 8th round. It’s definitely a moment he’d rather forget, but thanks to the internet may be his calling card for years to come.

HBO’s boxing announcing crew is light years ahead of any announcing crew in MMA. Sorry Goldie and Rogan but these guys are really, really good with their play-by-play and immediate analysis. That being said, it would’ve been nice if they were more critical of the disgraceful performance Clottey displayed out there.

I personally do not watch Hockey that much, maybe some games in the playoffs and then the Stanley Cup and that’s pretty much it. I didn’t even see the first game between Canada and USA, but with all the hype following the finals I had to see this game.

Only one problem, the game was been played at the exact same time the Lakers was to play the Denver and I wasn’t going to miss Kobe against Carmelo, so I went to see the game at one of my favorite sports bar in Chicago – West End Bar.

Am ashamed to say I couldn’t take my eyes off the hockey game, needless to say I didn’t see any second of the Lakers game. There were so many stars on the ice, but one shined brighter than everybody else: Ryan Miller.

Watching that game I was blown away by Millers performance, though I had heard of he’s performance in the first game against the Canadians, I didn’t believe anyone could be that good.

Was told Ryan Miller largely has been lauded as the NHL’s best goalie this season and he long has been beloved in Buffalo, where he stars for the Sabres.

But after his tremendous play wearing the red, white and blue, Miller will certainly become a household name inside the United States.

Despite losing Sunday’s gold medal game 3-2 in overtime to Canada, Miller was named the Olympics Most Valuable Player.

I felt so bad for Miller when he had to talk to the media after the game; you could see the disappointment written all over he’s face. He played the game of he’s life and it wasn’t enough, that must really hurt.

Miller went 5-1 in the tournament with a U.S.-record 1.35 goals-against average and .969 save percentage. The record previously was held by Jim Craig (1980/2.14). Miller obviously was immensely disappointed after Sunday’s game, but he said he’d long remember “coming together with this group of guys. We provided a consistent brand of hockey that got us here. … It just came down to OT.”

“Without him, we wouldn’t have been in the position we were in,” defenseman Brooks Orpik said.

Of all the fights U.S. General Manager Brian Burke, coach Ron Wilson and the rest of the American braintrust had while selecting the team, the No. 1 goalie was never one of them.

“What I like best about him is he’s calm,” Burke said. “He’s not like Denis Lemieux in ‘Slap Shot,’ screaming and yelling and flopping around. He is calm and economical and efficient, and our young players got confidence from that. They gained poise from that.”

The USA might have won silver; but in my book Ryan Miller won Gold.

Frank Mir issued a formal apology for envisioning Brock Lesnar’s death from fighting-related injuries, but Mir still isn’t sure what the hullaballoo was all about in the first place. From his conversation with SI.com:

“When I got called in and they told me, ‘Listen man, this is an issue,’ I kind of had a smirk on my face the whole time. I was like, ‘You’re kidding, right? This is a joke, right?’

“I’ve heard people say that this is to the death. I’ve heard people say about an opponent, ‘I’m going to kill him.’ I heard Brock say he was going to put his hand up my rear end to pull out a horseshoe. I didn’t hear anyone get too upset about that.

“No one’s been able to explain it to me yet. I thought we understood that what we say on camera is part of the entertainment aspect of our sport and we kind of get a little artistic license. It’s not like I said this to my neighbor, that if his dog shows up in my yard one more time I’m going to kill him. That would be bad. That’s a problem. I didn’t understand it, but hey, it came my way, I said it, and I can’t cry about it now. I’ve just got to deal with it, I guess.”

“I feel really good. I’m back to training, I started main camp last week and I feel great. Everything is on track. Starting to build the base up again and get ready to fight hopefully mid-summer. We’re thinking about July 3rd Las Vegas right now.”

“Fighting the winner, hopefully the winner, of Frank Mir and Shane Carwin. If one of those guys are unable to fight after that fight. I’ll probably fight Cain Velasquez from my understanding. I’d really like to fight Frank Mir again.”

“You know I don’t know what he [Frank Mir] thought… he’s still trying to pull his foot out of his mouth and when you say something like that and your wife has to go out and apologize for you, you know you pissed somebody off. I think his wife made the apology before he did probably.”

“But you know in this sport of fighting. Fighting has come so far in such a short amount of time. We want to perceive ourselves as athletes and get the respect of the general public. Yeah it was out of line but in the fighters mentally I don’t want to go in the Octagon and kill somebody but I do want to do whatever I can to win. And maybe that’s what he was saying, I don’t know.”

“But the guy should probably just focus on the task in front of him which is Shane Carwin because if Shane Carwin beats his ass he won’t be fighting me…. Hopefully he gets past Shane Carwin so I can put another beat down on him. For a guy to take an ass whopping like the last I gave him and for him to get up and keep running his mouth. You know I just got to laugh at it.”

“I got to go back to a quote that he said before my second fight. He said if Brock Lesnar beats me, He will become the greatest mixed martial artist ever. And I guess he’s eating his words and he doesn’t want to say that again, he doesn’t want to admit that I am that much better than him.”

“But I am truly hoping that Frank wins this fight so it sets us up for July and maybe the next beat down will … (laughs) I don’t know what I have to do to shut him up.”

Mark McGwire was saddened to learn his estranged brother was writing a book that chronicled their use of performance-enhancing drugs. He was so upset by the breach of trust that he thinks reconciliation is out of the question.

I for one consider Mark McGwire a dirt bag, (that’s the only polite adjective I can think of right now to describe him) and is not because he used steroids, because I know for a fact that more than 85% of baseball players in the 90’s were on steroids and to me that pretty much leveled the playing field.

I think he’s a dirt bag because of the deception and backdoor deals he made (and he’s still making) to keep the truth from coming out. At least Barry Bonds took the low road (so to speak) and said nothing. But, my man Big Mac went to congress and made an ass of himself and continued the circus all these years just to come back and say: yes I did use steroids, Duhhhhh!!!

What happened to the good old college rule: stick to your story till you die!

I forgot he was looking to get a job in baseball.

With all that said, even a dirt bag like Mark McGwire does not deserve what he’s estranged younger brother (Jay McGwire) is doing right now.

Jay said he injected Big Mac with a variety of steroids and he thinks the home run king gained obvious strength from the drugs.

Jay McGwire’s book, “Mark and Me,” is scheduled for publication on Monday. In an interview with The Associated Press, Jay McGwire said his brother “knew that he was going to get the strength and endurance and size.”

When he finally admitted last month that he used steroids, Mark McGwire said it was only for healing. His brother said that was the initial purpose but it’s obvious the slugger also gained strength.

I have seen some really appalling things in my lifetime, none as deplorable and gluttonous like this story. This is a brother that has more than benefited from he’s brothers success and has obviously not been able to stand on he’s own two feet ever since he’s brother left the game.

Jay who is the youngest of the five brothers and Mark’s junior by more than six years, lived with Mark and was a frequent clubhouse visitor during McGwire’s time in Oakland. His book, “Mark and Me: Mark McGwire and the Truth Behind Baseball’s Worst-Kept Secret,’’ is scheduled for publication Monday by Triumph Books.

This is truly a disturbing story especially since both men have not spoken in eight years because of a family dispute. The brothers fell out after Jay McGwire’s stepson, Eric, tickled Mark and caused Mark to spill coffee on himself. Mark then swatted Eric on the backside. Jay’s wife, Francine, then refused to attend Mark’s wedding. Blah, Blah, Blah.

It’s obvious now that the family dispute was probably envy and or hatred, or I might be completely wrong and this might just be a simple case of greed. Whatever the reason, you do not throw a family member under the bus or in this case under a concrete foundation. Jay makes Mark look like Mother Teresa.

“You try to be a good person, you try to take care of somebody, be a good brother,’’ said the St. Louis Cardinals hitting coach, trailing off. “It’s sort of sad. It’s a sad day for my family. I don’t know how a family member could do something like that.’’

McGwire used the word “sad’’ seven times to describe the book in his eight-minute session with the media.

I personally feel for Mark McGwire, which makes me believe that this whole saga might have been choreographed.

How do we know that Mark had no idea of the existence of this book?
Maybe he’s staged tearful and sincere apology was all meant to pre-empty the headlines this book would have provoked.

One thing I know for sure is, this present episode in the continuing Big Mac saga definitely has more to the story than meets the eye and we probably will get the whole truth.

They may have been in the spotlight before the tournament, but the likes of Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto’o never really sparkled at the African Cup of Nations in what was often a frustrating time for the more experienced players.

Drogba and Eto’o only collected three goals between them, while Barcelona midfielder Seydou Keita managed to score three but was powerless to prevent his Mali side from being eliminated at the group stage.

Moumouni Dagano, who shot to the top of the continental scorers’ standings with 12 goals in World Cup qualifying, failed to find the net for Burkina Faso, which also made a group stage exit without a single goal.

French coach Claude Le Roy, best known for leading Cameroon to its second continental crown in 1988, blames Eto’o and Drogba’s less convincing scoring form in Angola on a lack of support from teammates.

“When playing at Chelsea, Drogba is heavily dependent on other players, especially those on the wings,” Le Roy told the Associated Press. “I didn’t see him get much of that support here.”

Former England forward John Barnes thinks that Drogba, who has netted 19 goals for Chelsea this season, scores more easily in English football because defenders there aren’t physically a match for him.

“Drogba terrorizes defenders in England every week,” said Barnes, who was in Angola to promote England’s bid to host the 2018 World Cup. “Here, he can’t do that because there are defenders that match his physical stamina.”

Drogba’s Ivory Coast and Eto’o's Cameroon lost in the quarter-finals to Algeria and Egypt respectively.

Rigobert Song, making his eighth appearance at the African Cup, was at fault as Cameroon lost a group opener to Gabon. He blundered again against Zambia but Cameroon survived and went on to win 3-2.

He never returned to the starting lineup for his side and he may not do so again.

Iraq coach Bora Milutinovic, who took five different teams to the World Cup including the United States and Nigeria, believes that experience is a key element to success, but also reckons that players like Drogba get distracted by high expectations from fans.

Tactics employed by coaches at club and national level are also different, the well-travelled Serbian said in Luanda. “A player has to deal with different set of tactics. It’s not always easy.”

While some of the established players fumbled, the younger ones seized their chances.

Ghana didn’t need Steven Appiah, John Mensah, John Paintsil or Michael Essien to reach the final. The first three missed the tournament with injuries while Chelsea’s Essien only lasted 45 minutes of his team’s opening game against Ivory Coast before withdrawing with a knee injury.

Zambia unexpectedly made it through the group stage with its fringe players and went on to face Nigeria in the quarter-finals, only losing 5-4 on penalties after a 0-0 draw. Despite boasting Premier League players such as John Obi Mikel and Nwankwo Kanu in the squad, Nigeria continued to struggle in the semifinals, where it lost 1-0 to Ghana.

The last leg in the triangle of the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s middleweight contenders gets the next shot at champion Anderson Silva.

Jiu-jitsu master Demian Maia will replace Vitor Belfort as the challenger to Silva at UFC 112, the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced today. Belfort-Silva was supposed to leader the April 10 show in Abu Dhabi, but UFC is now promoting the lightweight championship tilt between BJ Penn and Frankie Edgar as the headline bout, and the legends match between Matt Hughes and Renzo Gracie as the co-main event.

Belfort pulled out of UFC 112 this week after undergoing shoulder surgery.

Maia earned a decision win over Dan Miller at UFC 109 last weekend by controlling the pace of the bout without inflicting much damage. In his previous appearance, at UFC 102 in August, Maia suffered the first loss of his professional MMA career when he was knocked out in 21 seconds after being flipped in the air by a right hand from Marquardt.

After Silva at No. 1, Marquardt, Maia and Chael Sonnen are the highest-rated UFC fighters in the USA TODAY/SB Nation consensus rankings. Given that each man has a win over another member of the trio, all three have equally valid claims to UFC’s top contender spot.

The case for Maia rests on the fact that prior to the Marquardt setback, he won all 11 of his MMA fights, including five consecutive submission wins in UFC. His last victory via tapout came at the expense of Chael Sonnen, who was promised a title shot after UFC 109 for his upset victory over Marquardt.

But Sonnen’s win came at a cost. Because of deep cuts inflicted by Marquardt, Nevada regulators barred Sonnen from any contact in training until March 9. That effectively ruled out Sonnen as a viable opponent at UFC 112 because it would only leave him a month for sparring and grappling, rather than the 10 to 12 weeks typically preferred by fighters going into major bouts.

Nevada officials also ordered Maia to see an opthalmologist or ocular surgeon for a left eyelid laceration, but he’s not under an automatic suspension as long he has a doctor’s clearance

I don’t know about you, but this was one very hard fight to watch: Randy Couture v Mark Coleman fight this Saturday in Las Vegas looked like one very old man (elder statesman) beating the s**t out of another old man. (Sorry, elder statesman)

Coleman’s only real success in the contest before being submitted in the second round was catching Couture with a right hook, which reminded ‘The Natural’, of the power of ‘The Hammer’, the first heavyweight champion of the UFC.

I wrote in my article; UFC 109’s Randy Couture v Mark Coleman: two guys to Old to Fight: Had this fight taken place when originally scheduled, it would have been one of the most storied bouts in MMA history. Now, its 12 years later, both are Hall of Fame members and while there is still a certain level of interest and intrigue, a pairing of fighters with a combined age of 91 doesn’t pique the interest of many of the young whippersnappers who make up the core demographic of the UFC. I don’t know what the numbers for the PPV where but I can promise you it wouldn’t be impressive.

Am down in Miami for the Super Bowl and I saw this fight in a very crowded bar with a patronage of mostly young people (21 – 35) who were into every fight with bets running through the room, but when the main event started less than 20% of people in the bar were still watching.

Seriously, who wants to see two old men throwing punches at each other? These guys hand so many moving body parts that I was just waiting for one of them to just completely break into pieces. I was actually impressed the fight went to a second round.

The UFC really need to get their act together and get some exciting heavy weight fighters, no hand to hand combat sport can survive by showcasing skinny light athletes. Just ask boxing!

Dana White is hoping the return of Brock Lesnar can rekindle the excitement that seem to have been missing from the more recent UFC events.

This meeting of two of mixed martial arts Hall of Famers did show some promise for Randy Couture who never allowed Mark Coleman out of the blocks. He may be 46, but he remains a testament to an impregnable work ethic and erudite physical skills.

More might have been expected of Coleman, who looked in excellent form in victory against Stephan Bonnar at UFC 100 in July last year, and teak-tough in a gasping contest on the wrong end of a defeat to Shogun Rua in Dublin in February 2009.

But the canny Couture – who has now fought three times in seven months – simply made this untenable for Coleman.

Yet Coleman was rocked by Couture with punches and knees. It was haute Couture in the first three minutes, Coleman caught with two big uppercuts in the clinch. Coleman was worn out up against the wall of the combat arena after round one – and in the second, Couture took his man down and choked him out.

The question now is: what’s next for 46 years old Randy Couture?

Dana White sees Randy Couture as a contender in the light heavyweight division, following two straight wins. He now awaits the outcomes of Machida-Rua and Jackson-Evans, and probably the outcome of the fight between the two winners of those fights, in order to get himself in the title picture.

For his part, Couture doesn’t think age is a factor for him.”I feel like I’m improving each and every time I get out here,” Couture said. “This is my third fight in seven months, and it feels good to be so active. 46 years young.”

After all I’ve said above, I wouldn’t get into the Octagon with him. So, I’ll say he’s probably right.

With regards Mark Coleman Dana White told reporters:

“I think tonight was probably Coleman’s last fight in the UFC…I have nothing but respect for him, and I’ll say this now, too: Mark Coleman has always been a stand-up guy to me. He’ll always be a part of this organization. I just think he’ll have a hard time competing with the guys at the top level. Age is a factor with him…It’s tough to say, ‘It’s over, and I’ve got to hang it up.’…It’s the toughest thing in the world, and I hate dealing with it. It sucks.”

Highlights of the Night

Fight of the Night: Chael Sonnen and Nate Marquardt, for their bloody 15-minute grind, in which Sonnen survived a nasty choke attempt in the third round to secure the decision victory and earn a middleweight title shot.

Knockout of the Night: Matt Serra, for beating down Frank Trigg and proving that his hands are always dangerous, even if they’re on the end of very short arms.

Submission of the Night: Paulo Thiago, for putting Mike Swick to sleep with a D’Arce choke after knocking him to the mat in the second round of their fight. Thiago: 2, AKA: 1.

UFC 109 lacks the star power of many recent events, but any card with a pair of active Hall of Fame heavyweights and a rebound match for a tough customer like Mike ‘Quick’ Swick is still terrific.

Former UFC Heavyweight champion Randy “The Natural” Couture will finally get in the Octagon against another former Heavyweight champion Mark “The Hammer” Coleman.

Had this fight taken place when originally scheduled, it would have been one of the most storied bouts in MMA history. Now, it’s 12 years later, both are Hall of Fame members and while there is still a certain level of interest and intrigue, a pairing of fighters with a combined age of 91 doesn’t pique the interest of many of the young whippersnappers who make up the core demographic of the UFC.

UFC 17 could have been an epic clash; Couture was fresh off defeating Maurice Smith for the heavyweight title, a belt the kickboxing legend had won five months earlier from the first champion in the company’s history, Coleman. UFC 109, on the other hand, sees Couture entering off a controversial decision over Brandon “The Truth” Vera, while Coleman comes in having upset Stephan Bonnar at UFC 100 back in July.

Regardless of the lost time, the significance of having two of the greatest UFC heavyweights colliding in the cage should not be overlooked. While having this fight happen years earlier would have made for a much different battle, these two men helped shape the sport and the company that we love, and they deserve our respect and admiration.

Couture is a heavy -400 favorite and should be able to wear down Coleman and punish him in the latter stages of the fight with his ‘dirty boxing’ style of ring control.

Despite being the elder of the two nearly 50-year-old men, Couture is the favorite, and with good reason. In just about every area of this fight, the former five-time (six if you count unifying the Light Heavyweight title against Tito Ortiz in 2003) champion has the advantage. Oddly enough, Coleman may hold an edge in the wrestling department, a place Couture can usually count on the checkmark.

One interesting angle that hasn’t been explored much heading into this bout is Couture’s recent increased activity. Two fights a year had been the norm for “The Natural” for the longest time; you have to go back to 2001 to find a year where Couture entered the ring / cage more than twice. While this is his first fight of 2010, UFC 109 will also mark the third fight in a six-month span.

I certainly don’t doubt the conditioning, skills or abilities of Randy Couture, considering he’s made a career of proving critics wrong, but it will be interesting to see if the heavier workload will have any impact on Couture inside the cage on Saturday night. Chances are it won’t, but when you normally take six months between bouts, and now you’re entering your third challenging fight in that same period of time, people are bound to be curious.

The rest of the card has a tasty betting mixture of one-sided matchups and a couple of fights that could go either way.

The one fight that has a real juicy line to bet on is Mike “Quick” Swick vs. Brazilian fighter Paulo Thiago in a Welterweight matchup. The line on Swick might be worth a second look; he’s coming into the fight as the -200 favorite to win.

Swick will be looking to strike his Brazilian opponent into unconsciousness, while at the same time trying to stay away from Thiago’s ground game and recently-proven heavy hands.

Thiago hasn’t received the respect that he should have after beating fan favorite Josh Koscheck, and then going the distance with No. 2 Welterweight Jon Fitch.

Swick is coming off a loss to Dan Hardy, the first real test he’s had in three years since his loss to Yushin Okami in 2007.

As just a +160 dog, Thiago won’t be a big payday if you pick him and he wins, but he does offer the best chance to bank an upset on the card. It’s still hard to imagine him winning as his stand-up style is wooden and awkward and he seems a knockout candidate every time out.

But that’s the beauty of UFC and why wagering on it can be so profitable as any man can win.

It’s shocking what you can find on a Tuesday night flipping through the channels. This past tuesday I stumbled upon a show on Oxygen (Yes, it’s actually a channel on TV:-)) with a couple of barely dressed girls walking around, swimming, booty shaking, fighting and partying all day and lets not forget talking a whole lot about sex. Yet no sex!

The name of the Show say it all; Bad Girls Club. Well I was stuck, lucky for me it was a mini marathon (4 episodes, 4 hours).

Natalie Nunn is a cast members of the show and she seem to be making waves too on the internet.

She has figured out how to translate her time on a low-budget cable television show into the vast world of internet entertainment gossip by attaching herself to the hottest name in R&B today: Chris Brown. She even got him to tweet about her:

So she’s crazy and fame hungry! But she does loves Athletes, who doesn’t?

After my visit to UFC 107 I was angry and depressed, maybe just angry! I wrote; Where was Arianny Celeste at UFC 107?

Boy was I wrong, I thought Arianny Celeste was maybe fired from the UFC just like hottie Edith Labelle before her.

I got a call from a friend telling me to go on MMAMADNESS.com and this is what I find;

MMAMADNESS.com has learned that both Natasha Wicks and Logan Stanton have been cut from the UFC as ring girls. Stanton’s contract expired after UFC 107 and the UFC chose not to renew it. Wicks was cut before the expiration of her contract. Ring girl Arianny Celeste will remain on with the organization; as her contract has been recently renegotiated- explaining her absense from UFC 107.

According to sources, there will be only two ring girls from this point forward. Though it has not been officially announced, our insiders are being told Chandella Powell, a former playmate, will be the newest ring girl. It has yet to be released when Ms. Powell will start her official ring girl duties, though UFC 108 would be the obvious choice.

This is not the first time a former Playmate has graced the Octagon. At UFC 100 in July, former Playmate Holly Madison acted as a “guest ring girl” for the evening.

What can I say, wow!

Natasha Wicks! Logan Stanton!! I know I said I was unhappy because Arianny Celeste was missing from my first live UFC event. But, I did say I was happy to see Wicks and Stanton. So, WHY?, WHY??, why fire them?

The UFC and Dana White really need to get it together.

On Saturday UFC 107 really, really disappointed me. I went to the Live event for one reason and one reason only. The UFC Octagon Girls.

The Octagon Girls were there, but, where was Arianny Celeste? She was no where to be found at UFC 107?
Been seeing her on TV and finally got a chance to see her live and she was no where to be found!

But, it was interesting that the longest tenured ring girl wasn’t at the event. Does this remind any one of how Edith Labelle (Remember to vote for Edith Labelle for A-List Person of Year. Click here to vote) disappeared?

In case ya’ll forgot, BJ Penn is one bad motherlover. And he reminded everyone why you should never bet against him ever again. Penn punished Diego Sanchez all night long en-route to a 5th round doctor’s stoppage victory to retain the UFC Lightweight Championship with a swift head kicked that busted Sanchez’s forehead open.

Diego Sanchez never figured out how to attack B.J. Penn on Saturday at UFC 107. Sanchez got destroyed on the feet. He suffered what looked like a broken nose, both of his eyes were blackened and a Penn kick ripped open a huge gash on his forehead. Anytime Sanchez came forward with a flurry, Penn stepped to his side and countered with two or three punches. Sanchez couldn’t score a single takedown in 16 attempts. It was clear Sanchez and his corner, which was still telling him to go for the takedown even before the fourth round, were lost against Penn.

It was satifying for the UFC lightweight champ, who thought a few years back that Sanchez was setting up a fight between them:

“I always had a feeling he wanted to fight me. I just kind of kept my mouth shut,” said Penn (15-5-1, 11-4-1, UFC). “He would always ask me to train with him. I know he wants to train with me to see what I have. Just like clockwork, he starts challenging me like a year later.”

Smart move on Penn’s part.

During the presser, Frank Mir said Penn is going to be tough to beat because he’s a great athlete, his boxing is excellent and he’s very technical. He suggested Frank Edgar would make a good fight while UFC matchmaker Joe Silva piped up and said don’t forget about Gray Maynard. Those two along with Tyson Griffin may be the last few real challenges for Penn sans rematches. Don’t sleep on what Kenny Florian looks like in 18 months working with a new camp. After that, Penn has got to be thinking about one more shot against Georges St. Pierre back at 170 pounds. When asked how he would put on the extra weight the correct way, Penn declined to answer and said he’s not thinking about it. A 31-year-old Penn is a much more composed and mature Penn as Sanchez found during his brutal beating.

Who else can beat him in his division? Penn might have to move back up and take another shot at GSP or somebody in the welterweight division because he has absolutely cleaned-out the lightweight stable.

All of the hard work in the gym seems to be paying off for one Kevin Ferguson, also better known as Kimbo Slice. The man who electrified the world by destroying neighborhood tough guy types in backyards and posting his fights on the Internet is beginning to resemble a bona fide MMA fighter.

Although not delivering on the expectation of an all-action brawl last night with Houston Alexander (9-5) in his UFC debut, he did what he had to do, earning a competitively fought three round decision to improve his official MMA record to four wins and one loss.

Alexander seemed to fight the entire bout very intimidated by the naturally bigger Slice, especially in the first round when he simply circled around the entire time out of punching range. Kimbo seemed not to know how to close the distance, resulting in a very boring, non-eventful frame. Over the next two rounds, Kimbo closed the gap, landed some big shots and ferociously body slammed Alexander so hard one time that it looked as if the man could have broken his neck. Additionally, Kimbo initiated a ground attack that resulted in a couple of mount positions and some ground and pound.

To Houston Alexander’s credit, he never quit and even seemed to severely hurt Kimbo with a front leg kick that sent him to the ground on one occasion in the third round. But the light heavyweight who was moving up to a catch weight of 215 lbs. for this fight simply did not initiate enough action to get it done.

What this fight proved more than anything is Kimbo Slice should fight at light heavyweight to give himself the best chance to compete on the most elite level in MMA. His strength overwhelmed Houston Alexander throughout, and with his improving technique, Slice may be able to enjoy some real success fighting naturally smaller men if he can make the 205 lbs. weight limit without doing himself severe damage.

Fighting at light heavyweight is a real possibility too considering the man had no dietician or nutritionist help him cut down to the 212 lbs. of ripped muscle he sported for this match. With the help and motivation from a dedicated professional in the field of nutrition, he should easily be able to shed the extra seven pounds to make weight while at the same time feeling strong.

In the future, expect to see the UFC feature Kimbo Slice in at least a couple more catch weight bouts before pushing him to make the move to light heavyweight where his chances should improve at enjoying success. Maybe a rematch with Seth Petruzelli, the only man who has defeated Kimbo Slice, will be in the cards if he has a couple more good showings. That match-up would do very good ratings on cable television or make for a great undercard bout on a UFC pay-per-view telecast.

Sarah holds a total of 4 kickboxing titles and she currently teaches and trains out of a gym in Houston, TX. In 2003 she was named Ujena model of the year (yeah, we don’t know what that means either) in which she traveled across Europe sprinkling the world with her ridiculously perfect body. There’s no doubt Carlos Dunlap deserved to be punished for he’s DUI arrest (Dunlap, 20, was arrested at 3:25 a.m. Tuesday by Gainesville Police Officer Robert Rogers at the signal light at Southwest Second Avenue and Southwest 34th Street.), but does the whole team deserve to be punished too? as Urban Meyer has suspended Dunlap for the SEC Title game.

According to police, Rogers was dispatched to the area to check out reports of a reckless driver in a Chrysler. Rogers said when he found the car matching the description, it was stopped although the traffic light was green. Rogers said he watched the light cycle through several times but the car remained stopped.

The kid made a very stupid mistake and yes he’s only 20 years old and shouldn’t be drinking. But who are we kidding?
Drinking is a part of every college life and though it doesn’t make it right, it doesn’t help when we over react either.
Yes he could have killed some one – but he did not.

Dunlap is one of the best player on this Squad and are going to be facing Nick Saban and an Alabama squad they defeated last year and would be giving the Gators all they can handle this Saturday.

The suspension of Dunlap was to make the media happy and make Meyer look tough.

Winning Championships is what Meyer should be thinking about right now and finding better ways to punish individual players in ways that does not impact the team in a negative way.

Since leaving the UFC Ali Sonoma has done really well from national modeling contracts to reality tv shows on ABC. What can I say, being geogeous and carrying the those octagon numbers around the octagon can get you places (Just ask Edith Labelle) . So, on to a new gig, completely jacked, Ali Sonoma recently shot a photo shoot along with Arianny Celeste for Muscle Pharm.  Both girls looked amazing for the shoot and best of all, are wearing very little. Photographer Eric Williams got to shoot the girls, while videographer Blake Rubenstein hooked up the video.

That petite brunette with the thousand-watt smile is Logan Stanton, a 20-year-old model from Niceville, Florida, who, contrary to Internet rumors, is not at all related to Arianny Celeste. She is, however, a longtime UFC fan and self-described “dork” who likes to scarf chocolate and play with beads. We got the inside story on how she got the gig, what Octagon Girls do when they’re not on camera, and lots more…

Question: So first things first — Is Logan Stanton your real name?
LOGAN STANTON: Yeah. My sister named me. My parents thought I was going to be boy, and they just liked the name so well that they kept it for me. But I like it — it goes with my personality because I’m not a girly-girl, I’m kind of a tomboy.

How long have you been modeling?
My mom was pushing me to do this since I was about nine, but I’d never had any real interest until I turned 18. I decided I needed to get out of Niceville and do my own thing for a bit, so I came to Miami and was picked up by an agency. I’ve been down here modeling full-time since last January, going back and forth between Miami and L.A.

UFC fans have been buzzing about you ever since you made your Octagon Girl debut last month. How did you wind up getting hired by the UFC?
It was probably the most random thing that’s ever happened to me. The agency called me last month and told me to come by the office, and they were like “Have you ever heard of something called the UFC?” I said, “Are you kidding me, of course I’ve heard of it, I’ve been watching it forever.” I didn’t understand why, but the UFC wanted to meet with me, so they flew me out to Vegas, and I met with [UFC VP] Craig [Borsari] and Dana [White]. I told them, “honestly, I don’t know why I’m here — I don’t have big boobs, I’m not blonde,” and they said that’s not what they were looking for at all.

Then they explained to me what an Octagon Girl does. I’ve always watched the shows, and I’ve been dying to go to one ever since I started following it. It just sounded like a very cool opportunity. They said there was a fight [later that month], and if I was ready to go I could do that one. I needed a few days to let it sink in, so I went home for Christmas, and my friends and family got me all hyped up about it.

Is this going to be an ongoing gig, or did you only sign up for a certain amount of appearances?
Hopefully ongoing. I haven’t signed anything yet, so it’s hard to say. But I guess until I trip or something I’m here to stay. [laughs]

You were in front of an audience of over 14,000 people at UFC 92, with over a million more people watching at home. How did you deal with the nerves?

I’ve never been good at getting up in front of people. When I had to give presentations at school, I was always terrified — you know, when your heart starts beating really fast and you can’t get any words out? So I was freaking out for a couple weeks leading up to the event. Then Leslie took me into the arena and I saw everything, and it wasn’t as big and scary as I thought it would be, and I somehow got over my nerves. I wasn’t nervous at all — I just had a blast with it. I was really comfortable.

Obviously, we never get to see what the Octagon Girls are doing during the fights. What do you do when you’re not holding a card? Did you and Arianny just talk the whole time, or do you just kind of sit there doing nothing?
Well, me and Arianny have our seats on the side of the ring, and we talked to fans for a bit, and stopped by to see people that Arianny knew in the audience. But a lot of the time I was texting my parents and my boyfriend, and taking pictures on my phone — I know that sounds cheesy but I was really excited to see all the fighters. Other than that, we just hung out and watched the fights.

Did Arianny give you any good advice about how to handle yourself as a ring girl?
She just said to be yourself, and not take anything that people say too seriously. That’s about it. I got more advice from Leslie, who walked me through everything before the event started, and told me how to hold the cards and who to watch out for — the photographers, cameramen, stepping over wires. There’s a lot of people on the side of the ring that you never see.

Are the fans respectful for the most part, or did you hear any crude comments from the guys there?
They were respectful. I mean, there were a lot of cheers and people would shout out things every now and then. One guy yelled “take it off!” at one point, and I got thrown off by that, but I wasn’t offended or anything. Everyone was really nice, and after the fights I got so many e-mails supporting me and congratulating me. So, I haven’t heard anything yet that breaks my heart.

What did you do after the event was over? Were there afterparties to go to, or did you just go back to your hotel?
There were afterparties — Arianny had hers, and a few of the fighters had theirs — but I went back to my hotel room. I had to be up at 3 o’clock to catch my flight the next morning, so I got like two-and-a-half, three hours of sleep. I like to go out, but I know my limitations. And I’m only 20! [laughs] So I stayed in instead of dealing with all of that. Kind of dorky.

Speaking of which, your page on UFC.com says you’re “a big dork and always have craft projects going on.” What was the last thing you made?
I made a bracelet the other day. I’ve been into the whole jewelry-making thing lately. I have a lot of friends who make jewelry and are very creative, so I was inspired to try it myself. I went to this bead store nearby, bought a bunch of beads and sat here for like three or four hours in my apartment working away at it while everyone else was at the beach. But I like to have alone time, and I like to have days to myself where I can do dorky things like that. Anything that can keep me entertained.

Also, under favorite foods, it says “Chocolate!”, with an exclamation mark and everything. How deep does your obsession go?
It’s actually ridiculous. I eat it as soon as I wake up in the morning. I probably have a cup of hot chocolate every night. I have chocolate ice cream in my fridge right now. My favorite thing is chocolate-covered peanuts. I actually eat around the peanut, and just eat the chocolate.

There’s no doubt Edith Labelle is still the hottest Ring Girl of all time  (ok, debatable) but the void left by the firing of Edith ( UFC’s Edith Labelle Says She Was Fired For Being “Sick,” Not Hungover) has been filled very well by the unbelievably hot Rachelle Leah. She has placed both hands on all the oppotunity being a Ring Girl in UFC affords. We are very very thankful to Dana White for keep giving us many more reasons to watch two dudes beat each other up.
