The NBA has also been dominated by super teams, no NBA star or legend ever won any game or titles all by themselves, they always had lots of help from teammates. Most people like to think the greatest of all-time – Michael Jordan won six NBA titles all by his lonesome, on the contrary, Jordan played with arguably one of the best super teams of all time.
What is a Super Team?
An NBA super team is a team with two or more “A+” class talent on its roster.
The Michael Jordan Bulls had two A+ talents in Jordan and Scottie Pippen and A- talent in Dennis Rodman. This roster also had two B+ talents in Tony Kokuc and Ron Harper. The Showtime Lakers was another team packed with all sorts of outstanding A+ talents with Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and James Worthy, and A- to B+- talents in Byron Scott, A.C. Green and Michael Cooper.
While super teams are often successful in winning it all, sometimes the wrong mix of A+ plus talents can be disastrous and or ineffective. That would be the case in New York with Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony, Shaq and Steve Nash in Phoenix, Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson in Denver, Kevin Garnet and Latrell Sprewell in Minnesota and even Charles Barkley tried his hand at joining the Shaq – Kobe super team, but the chemistry of that team was so bad they were defeated in convincing fashion by another super team from Detroit led by Rasheed Wallace.
In this list we rank the 15 greatest super teams in NBA history, the teams that played as one unit and won the ultimate prize.
