[Check out the Weekly Showdown updates below the article]
They are the best of the best, the creme dela crème of NFL quarterbacks: Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers. They raise their game and the game of everyone around them regardless of the talent around them. They are unquestionably some of the greatest of all-time, so we ask, which one of these quarterback is going to have the best season in 2012-13.
This NFL season we are going to be conducting various player head to head matchup competitions, these competitions will run all season long with weekly winners based on each player’s individual and team stats. We call these competitions “Showdown”.
These Showdowns will be between two or more NFL players of the same position in different teams and often we will jazz it up with showdowns between players in the same team. Check out our Tim Tebow vs Mark Sanchez Showdown, that is an example of Showdowns with teammates. Then we have the Showdown of players in different teams like the Elite QB Showdown.
This is going to be an exciting season with Peyton Manning coming off multiple neck surgery and now playing for a team other than the Colts for the first time in his NFL career. Everyone is wondering if we are going to see vintage Peyton Manning and if he can stay healthy all season long. Personally I believe he (Manning) is the best QB in the NFL because when it comes to controlling the line of scrimmage and reading defenses – no other QB is better than him in the league today. So I believe as long as he can stand upright all season long he might just win this showdown.
Drew Brees more than any other QB in the league this season will be in the toughest situation with an off-season plagued with contract disputes and allegation of bounties in the New Orleans locker room. He is going to be playing without his defensive coordinator Gregg Williams suspended indefinitely by the NFL, head coach Sean Payton suspended for the entire 2012 season, assistant head coach Joe Vitt (six games) and the general manager Mickey Loomis suspended for eight games.
He is also going to be playing without teammate Jonathan Vilma who was initially suspended for the entire season but had his suspension overturned, but now is on injury list. With all these missing personnel in the Saints locker room can the Saints manage to put together a good season, will Drew Brees big arm be enough to take the Saints to the playoffs?
The Green Bay Packers led by Aaron Rodgers went 15-1 in the regular season and were bounced in their first game at home by the New York Giants. They come into this season with only questions and most of the questions are with regards their world class horrible defense that can’t seem to stop anyone. How will the Packers fare this season with they once again have to depend solely on Aaron Rodgers and the high powered offense.
The only QB coming into this season without any questions is superman Tom Brady. Brady and the Patriots were in the superbowl again last season and were one drop pass away from a superbowl win. Everyone expects the Patriots to do well again this season as Vegas has them as favorite to win it all.
So how does this work?
Every week each QB is scored based on five criteria with each criteria assigned a specific number: Touchdowns (TD = 10 points for each TD), Interceptions (INT = -5 points for each INT), Yards (YDS = Total yards (passing + rushing) divided by 10 (example: if QB total yards from game X is 362, then 362 divided by 10 = 36.2)), Wins (WIN = 10 points) and loses (LOSS = -10).
Give us your prediction, which QB will win the ShowDown?
