RGIII is already one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL
When the Washington Redskins drafted Robert Griffin III many believed (by many I mean me) they (Redskins) gave up too much to pick up just another running quarterback. Wow, that’s all I could say after watching RGIII dismantle the New Orleans Saints at home during the NFL’s opening weekend. Right from that day it was clear this kid was the truth.
Ever since Joe Gibbs packed his bags and left town the first time the Redskins have never been able to find any kind of consistent offense on the field, (and that’s me putting it lightly) they have gone through coaching changes and even brought back Joe Gibbs for another try and that too didn’t work out. Now they believe they have found the right man for the job in two time superbowl winner Mike Shanahan and though I strongly believe Mr. Shanahan is simple overrated, but that’s a conversation for another day, he seem to have made the pick of the decade when he picked up RGIII.

In the NFC East Quarterback Showdown RGIII is competing against veteran QB’s like Eli Manning, Tony Romo and Michael Vick and he is currently ranked number two overall after six weeks of football. He is currently out playing Romo and Vick and is just 19 points behind a quarterback many believed to be Elite in Eli Manning. Click here to follow coverage of the NFC East Quarterback Showdown.
Coming off a concussion last week I strongly believed he (RGIII) was going to be more conservative and throw the ball more and I could tell watching the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday they thought exactly the same thing as they seemed to be unprepared for his running game. He ran 13 times for 138 yards and added two rushing TD and threw the ball 22 times completing 17 of them for 182 and one TD. Needless to say Mr. Griffin ran circles all over the Minnesota Vikings defense.
There have been many entertaining running quarterbacks in the NFL who could do what Griffin does on a week to week basis, but my oh my, I am yet to see any of those in the past or currently who could pass the ball so accurately while displaying such poise. His confidence in the pocket and control of the line of scrimmage is why he is the only rookie quarterback ranked in the NFL Top 25 Quarterbacks of the 2012-13. (Click here for the complete list)
Can he continue to amaze all season long and for the rest of his career? I have no idea; I was late to this party and from what I’ve seen so far – am just going to enjoy the show and try hard to catch my breath so I don’t hyperventilate.
All I can say for now is: RGIII is Bad, Bad, Bad…. Boy.
Russell Wilson continues to stand tall against the NFL’s best
While all the weekend hype was about RGIII and his amazing performance at FedEx Field and deservingly so, the brilliant performance by Russell Wilson against a formidable Patriots team led by Mr. NFL himself Tom Brady was overshadowed.
Russell Wilson out played #2 on the NFL Top 25 Quarterbacks of the 2012-13: Tom Brady as he (Wilson) finished with career highs in passing yards (293) and touchdown passes (3) while completing 16 of his 27 attempts for a passer rating of 133.7. With this performance Wilson beat out Andrew Luck and RGIII to win week six of the NFL Rookie QB Showdown and is currently ranked second overall behind Mr. Griffin and above (Andrew) Luck. Click here to follow the coverage of the NFL Rookie QB Showdown.
But the real story that is not been told here is how a rookie quarterback has gotten the best of the NFL’s elites. Russell Wilson and his Seattle Seahawks have defeated last year’s MVP in Aaron Rodgers, Tony Romo and his Dallas Cowboys, the scary 49ERs and now Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.

This kid does everything with confidence, improving every game, he is also a delight to watch as he extends the play bringing second chances with his evasiveness and most of his knack for delivering deep balls on target, and an indisputable flair for the dramatic. He has made Pete Carroll look like a genius picking him over veteran quarterback Matt Flynn and now the Seahawks seats atop the division with a 4-2 record.
It’s safe to say Russell Wilson might just be a giant in the making.
